FH.MOSAICS

I’m Francia Hunt the artist behind FH.MOSAICS.

My journey with mosaics spans over 30 years and two continents with a background in Interior Design; rooted in Colombia, shaped in Italy, and brought to life in London and beyond. My work is driven by tradition, story, and hands on craft.

COLOMBIA

My mosaic journey began in Bogotá, where I studied Interior Design at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University.

After graduating, I completed an internship at Canteras Unidas, a marble and granite factory. There, I came to know stone in its rawest form, watching it go from large rough blocks to thin, refined tiles used in high-end architectural and domestic finishes.

As part of the team, I helped design bespoke floors for clients, gaining first hand experience in materiality, precision, and visual flow.

Soon after, I travelled to Italy to deepen my craft. I studied  Pietra Dura in Florence under master artisans and learnt the traditional Ravenna method of mosaic making in Ravenna.

When I returned to Colombia, I joined a new project with the same collaborators under the name Squadra y Sfera. There, I began creating mosaics using recycled marble and granite offcuts, taking full advantage of the polishing machinery available in the factory. I led a small team of three artisans and exhibited my work both in a design fair in Bogotá and in the company’s showroom.

Those early years laid the foundation for my lifelong approach: honouring materials, combining discipline with creativity, and finding beauty in transformation.
